Is The Cliq XT Worth Rooting?

The Cliq XT is a pretty cheap phone, and the firmware is a few generations old, at Android version 1.5. It comes running MotoBlur, which slows the phone down substantially. I ended up with this phone because I did not do much research before ordering it from T-Mobile, and because it was free. Now I am stuck in a two year contract with a phone that I am less that pleased with. So rooting this phone to make it better was my only real option (yeah, I could go buy another phone at full price, but I don't want to drop that kind of cash on a phone).

Once rooting was possible for this phone it took some time before any roms were available, but now there is. A modder known as ADLX (http://twitter.com/#!/adumont) released a rom with version 2.1 of the OS, and now there is a rom with 2.3 out.

Bottom line, I would not run out and get this phone just to root it and put a new rom on it, but I think that if you have one it is well worth it to root it and get a more recent OS running on it!
